About This Course
This course will present the management of cervical disorders with an emphasis on manual therapy. An overview of the research into the nature of impairments that may occur with neck pain/injury and the sub classification of neck disorders, which informs a manual therapy approach, will be provided.
This course has a practical emphasis and will explore in detail the assessment and management strategies for cervical disorders with a focus on cervicogenic headache and mechanical neck pain. Safety issues to the use of cervical mobilizations and manipulations will be discussed and simple manipulation techniques of the cervical and thoracic spine will be introduced.
Course Objectives
Upon completion of this course, participants will be able to:
- Have a good understanding of the presentation of patients with cervical disorders
- Use a sub classification system for differential diagnosis of cervical disorders and the treatment directives from the assessment
- Develop clinical skills in the use of diagnostic tests in patients with cervical disorders
- Develop clinical skills in the biomechanical assessment in patients with cervical disorders
- Develop clinical skills and adequate reasoning in the use of spinal manipulations in patients with cervical disorders
- Discuss safety in the use of spinal manipulations of the cervical spine
