Course Description:
The MN APTA payer workgroup and payment committee is hosting a day-long event featuring every major payer in Minnesota! In the morning, attendees will discuss payment issues facing physical therapy and then hear representatives from each payer speak on key topics including direct access to physical therapy, identification of high value networks, physical therapy and the rising total cost of care, and innovative concepts that could shape the future. Following the payer representatives, there will be questions and answers with the entire panel. In the afternoon, there will be the opportunity to identify key metrics for therapy practices and payers including number of visits, number of interventions, and outcome measures. With these tools, participants will be equipped to advocate for physical therapy services with employers and will be equipped to empower patients to advocate for physical therapy payment.
Learning Objectives:
1. Participants will be able to articulate an understanding of the payment issues facing the profession as well as MN APTA activities and purpose of the payer workgroup and payment committee.
2. Through interaction with MN Payer representatives, participants will gain an understanding of the payer perspective relative to physical therapy practice including direct access, identification of high value networks, and payment policies.
3. Participants will be able to describe payer data and physical therapy performance metrics including number of visits, number of interventions, and outcome measures to ensure high value treatment for consumers.
4. Participants will gain confidence in tools and tactics to empower patients to advocate for physical therapy payment and advocate for employers and physical therapy benefits.
