Payor Summit April 11, 2025

Event Description

This course brings together representatives from the payor community in Minnesota for a morning payor panel followed by an afternoon educational session. The healthcare system is turning towards value-based payment models, and it is important to recognize that physical therapy is an integral part of the healthcare ecosystem and this shift towards value-based payment. We must find a way to succeed with these changes. What is our role in improving the healthcare system and ensuring we are part of the solution? How can we demonstrate our value to patients, payors, other providers, and members of society as the tide is turning?

In the morning session, the payors will share their perspective on these topics through prepared remarks and Q&A format. This two-hour session will allow payors to present their material and leave time for questions from attendees. We will also hear from our APTA MN State Government Affairs on state and federal initiatives impacting payment.

The afternoon education session is designed to discuss key topics impacting physical therapy services and will consist of presentations and interactive discussions. Common themes include practice, payment, advocacy, and the impact on the value-based care environment. The topics include:

  • Technology Enabled Care – Virtual Physical Therapy, Remote Therapeutic Monitoring, and Patient Engagement
  • Payment Advocacy, Value-Based Care, and Why it Matters to Your Patients and Our Profession

Technology Enabled Care – Virtual Physical Therapy, Remote Therapeutic Monitoring and Patient Engagement

  • What – Virtual Physical Therapy. Remote Therapeutic Monitoring, and high-quality physical therapy services
  • Who – Patient selection, what kind of patients will this benefit
  • Why – How to “sell” it to your patients
  • How – Workflows that work, coding, tracking time, and documentation = outcomes and participation

Payment Advocacy, Value-Based Care, and Why it Matters to Your Patients and Our Profession

  • Value APTA advocacy brings to PTs and PTAs in all states – we all WIN
  • What we can learn from other state advocacy efforts to support initiatives in MN
  • What does advocacy look like – it’s not just legislative
  • Your impact on the future of physical therapy

Even with best of intentions, sometimes we can take the road that is influenced by financial or operational pressures which can dilute our ability to tell the physical therapy value story. The connection of these topics and how they impact each other will be a common theme through this course.
