This presentation will introduce you to facilitating joint movement, how we use the technique in our FAST Approach TM at Fix It physical therapy, and the science behind the technique. Facilitation of joint movement will be demonstrated and all questions will be answered.

This course will include qualitative and quantitative information, as well as interactive demonstration and role play to help learners understand perspectives, empathize with patients/families, and practice helpful skills and strategies.

Survival rate is high in the United States, and we owe it to both patients and survivors to help them minimize their pain and maximize their function to live their highest quality of life. In this talk we will discuss breast cancer treatments and their long term sequelae including but not limited to shoulder dysfunction and lymphedema, and some basic ideas of how you can treat them safely with improved knowledge of common surgeries and other treatments.
Geriatric / Falls	2/8/2025	2/8/2025	1:30 PM	3:00 PM	2/8/2025 1:30 PM - 3:00 PM Presenter: Deborah Madanayake, PT, JD, GCS, CLT, CEEAA Title: Stepping Into the Space of Fall Risk Identification and Prevention: the STEADI Initiative Speaker: Deborah Madanayake, PT, JD, GCS, CLT, CEEAA Session Summary: In this session, you will meet Lou, a vibrant 84 year old who was brought to the emergency room after falling in their apartment. Every year more than 1 in 4 adults over the age of 65 experiences a fall. The World Health Organization has identified falls as a major global health concern. In response, the Center for Disease Control and Prevention developed the Stopping Elderly Accidents, Deaths, and Injuries initiative (STEADI). This initiative empowers health care providers to reduce fall risk by making fall risk identification and prevention a part of everyday clinical practice. Using the STEADI protocol, you will contribute to the interprofessional team’s determination of whether Lou is safe to return directly home. You will also be challenged to educate Lou on how to get up from the floor.

TBI/Concussion	2/8/2025	2/8/2025	1:30 PM	3:00 PM	2/8/2025 1:30 PM - 3:00 PM Presenter: Amanda Burtraw, PT, DPT, NCS Concussion is a type of traumatic brain injury that occurs as result of biomechanical forces to the head and/or body. Often discussed in the context of sports, concussion can also occur from other mechanisms of injury including motor vehicle accidents, falls, and work related injuries. A careful screen and examination is essential for appropriate identification of risk factors, impairments, and symptom subtypes to guide recovery. After a concussion, physical therapists play an essential role in management of headaches, neck pain, dizziness, visual deficits, balance, autonomic nervous system function, and/or exertion. Understanding the emerging evidence in concussion care can optimize patient outcomes and reduce the impact of persisting symptoms after concussion.
