As of January 1, 2026, the MN Department of Human Services (DHS) is imposing an annual limit of PT services under Medical Assistance (Medicaid) to 14 visits after which Prior Authorization (PA) is required. This comes as a disappointment to DHS and to APTA MN as DHS had proposed a rate increase for providers that would have brought the rates in MN into parity with Medicare rates. Instead, this PA policy was developed given state budget woes. However, we were able to convince the Department to allow for retro Prior Authorization. The vendor for the PA is Atrezzo and they are offering training modules for providers during December and January. Register Here.
Thank you to our APTA MN Payment Committee Co-Chair, Julie Somsky, and our APTA MN State Government Affairs Committee Co-Chair, Kathleen Picard, for working diligently on this! They represent APTA MN serving on DHS' Rehab Workgroup which includes OTs and SLPs and allows for provider input on Medicaid policy.
